CSM Bucharest played a bad game with Team Esbjerg and was defeated 25-21 in a match in the 5th stage of the Champions League for women's handball. It is also the first defeat that he suffered with Adrian Vasile on the technical bench in the position of head coach.
- CSM Bucharest missed three shots from 7 meters, through Neagu, Lekic and Torstensson.
- Elizabeth Omoregie was injured in the second half.
- The "tigers" have complicated their situation with this defeat. The standings in the Main Round look like this: Metz – 5p, Kristiansand – 5p, Esbjerg – 4p, Rostov – 3p, CSM Bucharest – 3p, Ferencvaros – 0p. There are two more games that will count next week, Rostov – CSM Bucharest and Metz – Ferencvaros.
CSM Bucharest went from the beginning badly, despite having from the first minute on the field Cristina Neagu and Andrea Lekic. Esbjerg placed in front of the hosts' offense a 5 plus 1 defense, which made them uncomfortable with the Tigers. The game was not tied, the integers could not be valued, nor was the employment of the pivots employed. On the contrary, most errors were made in the pivot game. Overall, the attack was not slow, many actions were predictable and easily annihilated by Esbjerg.
The Danish champion took the lead after the first 10 minutes and led 11-6 in the 23rd minute. Adrian Vasile had to request twice a time-out to settle the problems. After the second, the coach decided to play 7 vs 6 in the attack, CSM Bucharest also took advantage of some eliminations in the opposing camp, and in only 5 minutes restored equality, 11-11. It was the grace period of the Dragana Cvijic pivot, but also of the Bucharest team in this game. On the break, Esbjerg took advantage of the booths, 13-12.
The problems were not solved in the second part either. CSM Bucharest continued to lose balls on the treadmill, and in defense Polman and especially Breistol could not be stopped. Jelena Grubisic was the only one who noticed. Through her parades, the Croatian managed to keep the scoreboard in the "reel" until the end, when Esbjerg again took a 5-goal lead (25-20). The bad part is that the hosts were injured too, Elizabeth Omoregie, who in the first part managed to solve some actions individually and also scored two goals with an empty goal.
In the end, CSM Bucharest was severely punished by Esbjerg after the foul play, with 25-21 and took the face in the Main Round standings.
