Apple bets on augmented reality, virtual reality and 5G connectivity

LoversManzanathey were waiting for him: rumors about the launch of devices with augmented reality and virtual reality systems (AR and VR for its acronym in English).

About this same date, a couple of years ago the media giant Bloomberg announced that Apple was working on an augmented reality glasses, with the anticipation that they were launched in 2020. Today we know that these times will not be fulfilled and it seems that we will have to wait at least two more years.

As international media have reported as The Information or BloombergApple plans to launch a new helmet with combined AR and VR system in 2022. This would be followed by glasses with augmented reality technology for 2023.

To meet these dates, the company has around 1,000 engineers working on this new operating system, internally called ‘rOS ’(‘ reality operating system ’in English).

The new helmet will be focused on sector gaming, but without forgetting the viewing of videos or even use it to virtual meetings. Will make use of external cameras to ‘map’ the user's environment, in addition to having a high resolution internal display which will allow superimposing virtual objects in the real world.

As for the glasses, what is known about them to date is that, unlike the helmet, they will be designed to be used for longer periods and that its design will be like that of “high-end sunglasses with a very thick frame” in which the battery and chips will be integrated. It seems that their lenses could get dark when they are working, so that others know that the user is using them and, therefore, is busy.

These devices will have a new 3D sensor based on the current Apple FaceID sensor, but more sophisticated.

Rumors indicate the first half of 2020 as the release date of the renewed iPad Pro, which will have a module with two rear camera sensors and a small hole for the 3D system, which will allow users to create three-dimensional reconstructions of rooms, objects and people.

We will have to wait a bit more, although it is also planned for next year, to have the iPhone with this technology, which will apply to high-end models. Also the smartphone will have 5G connectivity.
