The social network has announced that it will not delete any inactive accounts until they believe “A new way” so that people can remember or honor the accounts of their deceased loved ones. Twitter has apologized for "the problems caused" and recognize that it was a "Failure on your part" not taking into account the "impact" that this would have on the accounts of the deceased.

The company also ensures that they have always had "a policy of inactive accounts" but that "they had not applied it consistently." The fact of initiating the measure in Europe was due in part to “local privacy regulations” such as the new General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union (GDPR).

The initiative, which affected users who had not accessed the social network during the last six months, was initially promoted to "release" usernames. They had until December 11 to connect or their accounts would be deleted and your username could be “sponsored” by another user.

“As part of our commitment to serve the public conversation, We are working to clear inactive accounts and present more accurate and credible information in which people can trust Twitter, ”the company said in a statement.

Part of this effort was “Encourage people to actively consult and use Twitter once they have registered an account”, as indicated by its inactive account policy.

Commemorative accounts for the deceased

The social network Facebook gives relatives and friends of a deceased person the possibility of creating a memorial account to remember her

If a family member or friend uses this form to submit a request, the account becomes commemorative unless the person has requested that it be removed after their death.

The account will still be visible on Facebook, but the only person who can manage a commemorative account is a legacy contact, selected by the account owner. If the account owner has not selected a legacy contact, no one can actively take care of it after it has been requested to become a memorial.
